Entrepreneur and real estate developer Deep Malhotra has launched Gemini Real Estate Fund, a proprietary investment platform focused on opportunities across hospitality, commercial real estate, mixed-use developments, education and healthcare.
The fund aims to bring together land, capital, brands and execution capabilities to develop real estate assets into operating businesses, rather than focusing solely on property ownership and construction.
“We don’t simply buy or build buildings. We assemble real estate businesses. For us building is just the beginning,” Malhotra said.
With over two decades of experience across real estate, technology, digital media, managed spaces and hospitality, Malhotra was part of the founding teams of Google India and MySpace India. Through Gemini Group, he has been involved in residential and commercial real estate development in Mumbai. He has also worked in managed commercial spaces through Gemini New Media Ventures.
A recent example of his approach is Bloom Hotel in Chembur, developed under a built-to-suit model in partnership with Bloom Hotels. The project brings together real estate development and a hospitality brand to create an operating hotel business.
Malhotra is also the author of Brick, Cement & Dotcom: The Unspoken Dark Realities of Entrepreneurship, which draws on his experiences across real estate, technology and entrepreneurship.
Through Gemini Real Estate Fund, Malhotra aims to bring together his experience across these sectors to identify opportunities where real estate assets can support and scale businesses.
“The next opportunity in real estate is not just in owning square feet. It is in creating businesses around those square feet,” Malhotra said.
