Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta held a key review meeting to evaluate the current status and provisions of the Master Plan for Delhi (MPD) 2041, which remains pending approval from the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The draft plan was submitted by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to the Centre in April 2023.
Sources revealed that the DDA vice-chairman will present a detailed briefing to the chief minister and senior officials from key departments, including industries, environment, and revenue. A major focus of the meeting is expected to be the development of three industrial clusters — Kanjhawla, Ranikhera, and Baprola — covering approximately 1,200 acres.
These upcoming clusters, planned under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, aim to attract high-growth service sectors such as information technology, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and research. The government envisions that these developments could generate lakhs of new jobs and position Delhi as a competitive hub for knowledge-based industries.
Officials also indicated that a global consultancy firm may be brought on board to help finalize the implementation framework for these projects.
The MPD-2041, which was approved in draft form by Delhi Lieutenant Governor V. K. Saxena — also the chairman of the DDA — in February 2023, emphasizes inclusive growth, environmental sustainability, and modern urban solutions. Key features include transit-oriented development, land pooling, heritage conservation, Yamuna River rejuvenation, and inner-city regeneration.
The MPD series, first introduced in 1962 under the Delhi Development Act, 1957, is intended to provide a comprehensive 20-year blueprint for the planned development of the capital.
