Delhi’s Oberoi Hotel to reopen in January
The iconic Oberoi Hotel in Delhi will reopen next January after completion of its renovation that started in April, 2016. Its reopening will show how Delhi has changed from the time the property was built in 1965. While the building structure is the same, built originally in 1965, the interiors are being completely revamped. “The Oberoi, New Delhi was originally scheduled to reopen in early April 2018, but is now likely to open doors in January 2018 itself. The hotel is expected to retain its iconic position in the capital which it has enjoyed since it first opened in the year 1965,” said P R S Oberoi, executive chairman of East India Hotels (EIH), the parent company of Oberoi Hotels. According to the group, Oberoi’s renovation has been designed by interior designer Adam Tihany, who took inspiration from Edwin Lutyen for this project. It will boast of “the first of its kind” rooftop bar in the city that will offer a 360 degree view of Delhi’s skyline, said an official. “To compensate for the quality of air in the capital, The Oberoi, New Delhi will provide the cleanest air in the city. High efficiency advanced air filters have been installed to provide clean air at par with global standards,” said an official. The accommodation will comprise of 218 guest rooms, including 32 suites. The 3,600 square feet presidential suite will offer views of Humayun’s Tomb on one side and the golf course on the other. The renovated property is laying special emphasis on its restaurants. The Delhi property was the first to be built by late M S Oberoi, who founded the group in 1934. The Oberoi, Delhi, is a vital revenue contributor to the group and has a net worth of over Rs 135 crore.
