Gopalan Metals (India) Pvt. Ltd. has entered the building wires segment with the launch of Gopalan Wires and Cables, expanding its presence beyond copper manufacturing into electrical products for residential, commercial and industrial applications.
The Bengaluru-based company, backed by the 40-year legacy of Gopalan Group, has introduced a range of FR (Flame Retardant) and FRLS-H (Flame Retardant Low Smoke and Halogen) PVC house wires under the new brand.
The products are manufactured at Gopalan Metals' facility in Hoskote, Karnataka, which has a production capacity of around 6,000 km of building wires per month. The company is currently targeting electrical dealers and distributors, contractors, builders, infrastructure projects, original equipment manufacturers and end users across retail and institutional markets.
The entry comes as India's construction and infrastructure sectors continue to expand, creating demand for electrical products that meet safety and quality requirements. The country's housing pipeline, commercial developments, industrial facilities and infrastructure projects are also increasing the need for reliable wiring solutions.
For Gopalan Metals, the new brand marks an effort to build on its experience in copper manufacturing and move further into the downstream electrical products market.
“Electrical wiring is a fundamental component of every building and plays an important role in the safety and reliability of an electrical system. With Gopalan Wires and Cables, our objective is to bring our experience in copper manufacturing into the building-wires segment and offer products that meet established quality and safety standards. The BIS certification reflects our commitment to manufacturing consistency, while our focus remains on delivering safe, reliable and dependable wiring solutions to customers across residential, commercial and industrial applications,” said Pramod C, Director, Gopalan Metals India Pvt. Ltd.
The launch also comes as manufacturers face growing expectations around product safety and compliance in India's electrical products market. Building wires are a critical component of residential and commercial electrical systems, making standards related to performance, fire resistance and manufacturing quality increasingly relevant to buyers and project developers.
Gopalan Metals' Hoskote facility gives the company a manufacturing base in Karnataka as it looks to build distribution across retail and institutional channels. Its current portfolio includes FR and FRLS-H wires, allowing it to cater to applications where flame retardancy and reduced smoke and halogen emissions are key considerations.
The company sees the wires business as part of a wider strategy to develop a diversified manufacturing portfolio. Rather than remaining focused solely on copper, Gopalan Metals plans to use its manufacturing capabilities to enter product categories linked to India's expanding electrical and industrial ecosystem.
The move comes against the backdrop of sustained investment in housing, commercial real estate, industrial development and public infrastructure. As more projects move through construction and fit-out stages, demand for electrical components is expected to remain closely tied to the broader growth of India's built environment.
For Gopalan Metals, the immediate focus will be on establishing Gopalan Wires and Cables across its target markets while building a wider customer base among dealers, distributors, contractors and institutional buyers.
