India's construction and infrastructure boom is creating strong demand for copper, placing domestic manufacturers at the centre of the country's rapidly expanding built environment. From residential towers and commercial complexes to industrial parks and public infrastructure, copper has become an essential material powering India's growth story.
According to the International Copper Association India, the country's copper demand rose 9.3 per cent year-on-year to 1,878 kilotonnes in FY25. Demand from the building construction sector grew 11 per cent, while infrastructure recorded a 17 per cent increase, reflecting the growing need for reliable electrical systems in new developments.
Often overshadowed by steel and cement, copper plays a critical role in modern construction. It is used extensively in busbars, switchgear, wiring, conductors and earthing systems that ensure buildings and infrastructure operate safely and efficiently.
As demand rises, domestic manufacturers are expanding capacity and strengthening supply chains to meet the needs of developers and infrastructure projects.
Gujarat Copper Alloys Ltd
Founded in 1992, Gujarat Copper Alloys has grown from a single manufacturing unit in Daman into an integrated producer of copper strips, rods, busbars, flats and tubes. Today, its products are widely used in switchgear panels and power distribution systems across construction projects.
Gopalan Metals (India) Pvt. Ltd
Operating from Hoskote, Bengaluru, Gopalan Metals has the capacity to produce nearly 6,000 metric tonnes of copper rods, busbars and cables annually.. While it serves sectors such as automotive and telecommunications, its products are also widely used in commercial buildings and industrial developments.
Ganga R Ispat Metals
Established in 2019, Ahmedabad-based Ganga R Ispat Metals manufactures copper rods and sheets for wiring and earthing applications from its facility in Bhilwara, Rajasthan. The company supplies several large industrial groups, including Larsen & Toubro, Adani and Jindal Steel & Power.
Capcier Industries
One of the newest entrants, Capcier Industries, began operations in Aurangabad in 2026, focusing on copper and aluminium busbars. With an integrated manufacturing process, the company is targeting demand from construction, real estate, data centres and EV charging infrastructure.
As India's construction activity gathers pace, copper is becoming increasingly important to the country's electrical infrastructure. With domestic demand rising steadily, manufacturers are playing a bigger role in ensuring that the nation's expanding skyline is supported by a reliable supply of high-quality copper products.
