Karnataka Cabinet Approves Tech Park in Derebail, Mangaluru

The Karnataka cabinet has approved the development of a new commercial office tech park in Mangaluru under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The project will be built on 3.285 acres of land on Blueberry Hills Road, Derebail, Mangaluru, and is expected to attract significant IT and technology investments.

The project will be executed on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) basis, covering survey numbers 129 and 113 in Derebail. It has been estimated at around Rs 135 crore and is projected to generate over 11,000 direct and indirect jobs, providing a substantial boost to the local economy.

Karnataka IT-BT Minister Priyank Kharge said the cabinet’s approval will pave the way for a modern commercial tech park with Grade-A office spaces, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and plug-and-play facilities. “This tech park will be a game changer for Mangaluru’s IT sector and will accelerate the growth of technology-driven enterprises in the region,” he said.

Mangaluru District-in-Charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao highlighted the city’s emerging potential as a tech hub. “There is growing demand for IT investments in Mangaluru, and this tech park will play a key role in attracting businesses and creating employment opportunities,” he told the media.

The announcement follows Minister Kharge’s earlier visit to Mangaluru during the fifth edition of Mangaluru Technovanza 2025 on September 24, where he had indicated that the cabinet would approve the proposal soon.

Mangaluru is already a significant contributor to Karnataka’s economy, with the local cluster accounting for nearly 5.5% of the state’s GSDP. The city has a growing presence in IT, Fintech, and Marinetech sectors, alongside increasing investments from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

As part of Karnataka’s Local Economic Acceleration Programme (LEAP), the new tech park aims to localize and scale the state’s IT ecosystem. With modern office infrastructure and facilities designed to support startups and established enterprises alike, the project is expected to transform Mangaluru into a high-growth technology corridor in southern India.

Minister Kharge took to X to confirm the details: “The Cabinet has decided to develop survey numbers 129 and 113 at Blueberry Hills Road, Derebail, Mangaluru Taluk, as a commercial office tech park under the DBFOT model. Spread across 3.28 acres, this Rs 135 crore project will be developed under the PPP model and is expected to create over 11,000 jobs.”

With this initiative, Karnataka continues to strengthen Mangaluru’s position as an emerging destination for technology-driven businesses while providing new opportunities for employment, innovation, and sustainable economic growth.
