Kalaburagi's rapid urban development has received a boost with the state government's approval to raise the height restriction for residential buildings from 11.5 metres to 15 metres. This move follows a request from the Confederation of Real Estate Developers' Associations of India (CREDAI) Kalaburagi, as the city experiences increasing demand for multi-storey buildings.
Mazar Alam Khan, Chairman of the Kalaburagi Urban Development Authority (KUDA), played a key role in pushing this change, actively working on amendments to the zoning regulations under the Karnataka Town and Country Planning Act, 1961. The proposal, submitted on 12th March 2024, was approved by the state government on 18th February.
This height increase addresses land scarcity issues caused by the city's growing population. By allowing taller buildings, the city can make better use of limited space, accommodating more residents and businesses. The change is critical to advancing Kalaburagi from tier-3 to tier-2 status, fostering economic growth.
With the recent completion of Kalaburagi Airport, the city's accessibility has improved, further boosting its economic prospects. The approval to raise building height limits is another sign of Kalaburagi's growing prominence as an emerging urban hub in Kalyana Karnataka.
