In a landmark declaration at the Housing and Infrastructure Summit 2024, Atul Save, Maharashtra Housing Minister announced that the state is committed to provide almost 30 lakh affordable homes by the year 2030 targeting the masses belonging to Economically weaker section and the lower income group.
Atul Save in his keynote address in a housing summit held in Mumbai said that the state is committed to making a qualitative affordable housing accessible to everyone in Maharashtra. The studies have shown the deficit of nearly 11 lakh houses. amidst such a scenario this initiative would help to bridge the gap between demand and supply of the housing stock.
Valsa Nair Singh, IAS, Additional Housing Chief Secretary, of Maharashtra, while emphasising the importance of affordability and sustainability in her address, said that Affordability and sustainability are at the heart of every housing project under taken by the state. she said that the state is committed to bring in green technology and AI-powered innovation into our housing sector to make our cities smarter and more liveable.”
Singh also highlighted the reduction in complaints about the housing lottery system due to the use of advance technology. The new IHLMS system used for the sale of houses is completely online and keeps no scope for human intervention.
Sanjeev Jaiswal, IAS, Vice President & Chief Executive Officer, MHADA, spoke about the authority’s long-standing mission and the future of redevelopment in the city. “MHADA’s 75-year journey has been about more than just building homes; it’s about creating communities. We are focusing on cluster redevelopments in congested urban areas, providing modern, sustainable housing while preserving tenant rights. Our upcoming projects in areas like Abhyuday Nagar and GTB Nagar aim to bring transformational change to the city’s housing landscape,” he shared.
Speaking to Realty+ Sanjeev Jaiswal said “Lot of housing stock will come in Mumbai in the next 10 years. The amendment of certain laws has empowered Mhada to play the role of a developer and also take up stalled projects and get it implemented.”
