The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) has invited bids for the design, build and construction of new 3,000 mm diameter mild steel (MS) water main connecting the tunnel shaft location at Gundavali (Bhiwandi) to the dome near the WYE Junction (Modaksagar) and involves comprehensive work including detailed design, engineering, supply, fabrication, coating, laying, jointing, testing, and commissioning of the water main.
The contractor will be responsible for ensuring compliance with technical specifications, safety standards, and quality requirements, along with necessary approvals and coordination with relevant authorities. Submission of proposals deadline was 22nd August, 2025.
Here comes the interesting part
The MCGM sham comes to surface with the ridiculous condition that has been put in the tender bid to favour just two companies - The tender document says that Pipe and the Specials fabrication facility shall be located within a radius of 150 km from the project site.
Why such a condition? Afterall, it’s for the contractors to decide, from wherever they source the pipes or put such facilities on site, as long as they complete the project as per the stated quality and within timelines.
It is believed; the conditions have been framed in such a way that only two pipe manufacturing companies ie Vishal Enterprises and Samriddhi only get qualified.
