The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) is gearing up to launch a massive housing lottery for 20,000 affordable homes in Mumbai, its surrounding cities, and Pune. This initiative will provide affordable housing options in Thane, Vasai, Virar, Raigad, and other areas, giving thousands of people a chance to own their dream home.
This was announced during the computerized lottery held in Mumbai for the sale of 2030 flats at the Yashwantrao Chavan Centre, with the presence of Atul Save, Maharashtra Housing Minister and Valsa Nair Singh, Additional Chief Secretary, Housing. These affordable homes were located in areas like Goregaon, Vikhroli, Powai, Borivali, Kandivali, Malad, Antop Hill, Juhu and South Mumbai.
"In the next couple of days, we'll announce lotteries for 16,000 affordable homes across Konkan, MMR, and Pune,” Sanjeev Jaiswal, CEO & VP, MHADA.
According to Mhada CEO and VP Sanjeev Jaiswal, “The Konkan Housing Board is set to offer affordable homes priced between Rs 20 lakh to Rs 1 crore, with priority given to economically weaker sections (EWS) and low-income groups (LIG) ¹. This initiative aims to provide housing opportunities to those who need it most, ensuring that affordable housing is within reach for marginalized communities. The homes will be part of the MHADA lottery, which has previously offered residential units in various areas of Mumbai, including options for EWS, LIG, MIG, and HIG income groups.
MHADA is gearing up for two more affordable housing lotteries in Mumbai, with 2,000 to 3,000 homes up for grabs in March and June 2025," said Jaiswal.
Additionally, plans are underway to award a contract for constructing 2,000 affordable homes on Patra Chawl land in Mumbai, further expanding housing opportunities in the city.
MHADA has given possession to 30,000 affordable homes by conducting a total of nine MHADA lotteries across Maharashtra in cities like Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Nashik, Sambhaji Nagar and Nagpur.
A winner of the lottery in Mumbai, Jayshree Kotkar said, “I have been applying for the lottery for the last 10 years and never thought I will get to win this time. It’s a dream come true to have a house in Mumbai. It comes as a blessing to me as we have been living on rent for years and today, I have a house of my own.”
