Mumbai's old development plan to remain in force

Mumbai's old development plan to remain in force
The city's new development plan (2034) will now come into force on September 1, the state government said. Till then, the existing development plan of 1991 will continue till Aug-end. A Development Plan has two parts: the actual sheets that show the land use by using various colours and the rules used to implement the land use. Failure to upload the DP-2034 sheets on the BMC website has meant that the public has not had access to the changes that have been made. Aware of this glaring omission, the government, in two notifications issued on Friday evening, said the period for submitting suggestions/objections for the Excluded Plan will be 30 days from the date the BMC uploads the DP sheets on its website. In the Development Control and Promotion Regulations- 2034, there are 70 regulations. To this the government made 165 changes called as Excluded Plan (EP). Since the EP changed the character of the draft DP-2034 as sanctioned by the BMC general body, the Maharashtra Regional Town Planning Act requires that the government invite suggestions and objections from the public. The Sanctioned Plan of DP-2034 was to come into force from June 23 but will now be kept in abeyance.
