At its third edition, the Realty+ Harit Bharat Leadership Summit gathered thought leaders from across sectors to explore new ideas and initiatives for making Indian real estate more sustainable and eco-sensitive. Green stalwarts from various industries discussed strategies for collaboration to bring about meaningful change in the built environment. The event was held at Novotel, Mumbai on August 13th.
Co-Partners for the event were Signature Global (India) Ltd. and Nemetschek Group. Industry Partners included the Indian Green Building Council and the Association of Engineers, Surveyors and Architects. Dr. Annurag Batra, Editor-in-Chief & Chairman of exchange4media & BusinessWorld Media Group, delivered a powerful address, emphasizing the role of visionary architects, designers, and brands in creating beautiful, sustainable, and future-ready spaces. He spoke about the leadership in design and sustainability sector and how the leaders of the sector are driving a positive change. “Gratitude & joy of giving is what makes our lives wholesome,” he said. Dr Batra advised the audience on the importance of sleep for a healthy and productive lifestyle.
The day began with 3rd Realty+ Harit Bharat Leadership Summit with the session on “Future-Ready Offices: Are Green Buildings Now a Tenant Expectation?”, featuring Dr. Mala Singh (Chairperson, IGBC Mumbai Chapter and, Founder & Director, PEC Greening India), Navinder Narang (Head, Infrastructure Facilities & ESG, ICICI Home Finance), Nitin Gupta (Head Technical-RMX, Nuvoco Vistas Corp. Ltd.), Senthilraj Balachandran (Sr. VP – Head of MEP & Sustainability, K Raheja Corp.), and Tripti Agarwal (Sr. VP – Commercial Transactions & Growth Strategy, Century Real Estate Holdings Pvt. Ltd.). The discussion was moderated by Abbishek Sharma (Executive Director - Commercial Leasing & Advisory, Anarock Property Consultants Pvt. Ltd.). The speakers elaborated the clients are aware of the green building and developers are accordingly creating the building with sustainability factors across design, construction and operational efficiency though challenges remain at the policy level.
The second session, “Beyond Glass and Steel: Collective Consciousness for Climate Resilience”, brought together Aparna Khemani (Senior Associate, Co-Managing Director, Gensler, Mumbai), George Abraham (Regional Head - Market Development, GBCI India), Lalit Kumar Tiwari (President - EHS & Group Chief Sustainability Officer, ESG, Kalpataru Projects), Prashant Deshmukh (Principal Architect, Prashant Deshmukh & Associates), and Dr. Sunita Purushottam (Head - Sustainability, Mahindra Lifespace Developers Ltd.). The session was chaired by Deepali Dhuliya (Director, Strategic Consulting, Cushman & Wakefield India). The speakers were anonymous on the views that while much progress has been done on creating awareness for green building practices the same has to reach the grassroots level and have to be city oriented rather than isolation.
In the afternoon, focus shifted to creativity and design excellence with the 2nd Architecture and Design Fest (AADF) – West Edition. The fest highlighted diverse perspectives on co-creation, city rejuvenation, design trends, and the fusion of art and space.
The first discussion, “Experience is the New Luxury: Building Brand Trust Through Design”, was led by Tushar Mistry (Principal Architect, Tushar Mistry Design Studio – TMDS) and featured Ayushi Ashar (Director, Ashar Group), Bhavik Bhandari (CSMO, Ashwin Sheth Group), Kshitij Limaye (Co-Founder & Managing Director, KBNK Design Build Pvt. Ltd.), and Ram Raheja (Director, S Raheja Realty). The designer ands real estate marketers deliberated on the increasing role of design and experience when it comes to customer centricity and sales of luxury properties.
The second panel, “Next-Gen Architecture: Build Fast. Build Quality. Build Green”, chaired by Sapna Srivastava (Editor, Realty+), included Karan Daisaria (Principal Architect, Daisaria Associates), Sheettal Sarvaiya (Vice President – Business Development & Client Solutions, Eleganz Interiors), Durvesh Mhatre (Senior Associate, RMA Architects), and Sachin Zanwar (Founder - Director, Urbanscape Studio). The young architects shared their views on how the design and construction methods are becoming more agile and spoke about their own approach to building with speed and green features.
The session “Era of Tech-tecture: Technology Redefining the Language of Design” was moderated by Vipul Tapke (CEO & Chief Architect, JTCPL Designs) with a panel comprising Amit Agrawal (Founder & Director, Pinakiin Designs), Kush Bhayani (Founder & Creative Director, KUL), Ar. Nandita Agnihotri (Senior Associate, Mandviwala Qutub and Associates), Satish Vayuvegula (VP - Pune, RSP India), and Shoaib Shaikh (Sales Head - Nemetschek Architecture & Design Business, Nemetschek India Pvt. Ltd.). The panel spoke about the rising use of the technology in architecture an its impact on the increasing efficiency in construction and design practice.
Following this “What’s Trending: Balancing Design Fads with Tech for Lasting Impact”, chaired by Nisha JamVwal (Luxury Brand Consultant, Interiors Architect Designer, Art Consultant, Columnist & Author, Partner, Nisha Jamvwal Design) with experts Clyde Crasto (Proprietor, White Paper Designs & National Spokesperson/Secretary NCP-SP), Reema Diwan (Vice President – Design and Technical Services, Accor), and Priya Daniel (Principal Architect, Five Scale Design). The eminent experts shared their experiences and spoke about how the greater need for awareness and design segment accessible for young generation and under privileged segment of the society.
The final panel, “Fusion of Art, Space & Design”, chaired by Sapna Srivastava, featured design veterans Jamshed Banaji (Principal Architect, Banaji & Associates), Nitin Killawala (Director, Group Seven Architects + Planners), Suresh Babu (Principal & Founder, Suresh Babu and Partners), and Vivek Kishore (Principal Architect, Finer Edge). The panelists veterans of the industry raise some pertinent questions about tech, sustainability and heritage building and the legacy we are leaving the next generation.
