UltraTech Cement Limited, India’s largest cement and ready-mix concrete company, has successfully operationalised a 7.5 MW round-the-clock (RTC) hybrid renewable energy project at its Sewagram Cement Works, an integrated cement manufacturing unit in Gujarat.
This pioneering initiative, executed in collaboration with clean energy solutions provider Gentari, integrates bifacial solar modules with trackers, wind energy, and battery storage in a co-located, behind-the-meter setup. The innovative system ensures uninterrupted clean power for cement manufacturing processes, eliminating dependence on grid electricity and reducing carbon emissions significantly.
Marking the first such project in India for industrial power consumption, the installation sets a new benchmark in system integration and highlights how advanced clean energy solutions can achieve both decarbonisation and energy cost optimisation at scale.
UltraTech Cement has made renewable energy a core enabler of its decarbonisation journey, aligned with its 2050 Net Zero goal. In FY25, the company became one of the first in India’s industrial sector to commission 1 GW of renewable energy capacity for captive use.
Looking ahead, UltraTech aims to increase the share of green energy in its total power mix to 65% by 2027 and 85% by 2030. Under its global RE100 commitment, the company has set a target to meet 100% of its electricity requirements through renewable sources by 2050.
This milestone project at Sewagram Cement Works not only reaffirms UltraTech’s leadership in sustainable manufacturing but also demonstrates the transformative potential of customer-led clean energy solutions in driving India’s green transition.
