UP Govt Sanctions Rs 6,000 Cr for Thirty Township Projects Across State

Uttar Pradesh government has directed local housing development authorities to fast-track the process of land aggregation for launching greenfield township schemes in various cities prior to the festive season. It was indicated that several of these projects might be rolled out by early autumn, with others scheduled to launch closer to Diwali.

The cities earmarked for the initiative include Aligarh, Meerut, Jhansi, Mathura, Agra, Moradabad, Kanpur, Firozabad, Bulandshahr, Banda, Ayodhya, Rampur, and Saharanpur.

According to officials, more than INR 6,000 crore has been sanctioned for a total of thirty township schemes under this plan. Notably, higher allocations have been reserved for projects in Moradabad, Saharanpur, and Rampur.

The government's greenfield township scheme, first introduced in 2023, entails a financing model wherein the state covers fifty percent of the land acquisition cost, repayable by the respective authority over a span of twenty years. The principal secretary of the housing department reportedly held a review meeting in the past week to assess progress and ensure timely implementation of the projects.

By targeting multiple regions with significant population demand and backing it with a long-term funding model, the government aims to provide timely and inclusive housing options. If the current momentum continues, the initiatives are likely to bring about a measurable shift in urban development, aligning with broader socio-economic objectives during the festive season.
