For Charu Thapar, every challenge became an opportunity to redefine what leadership could look like. Building her career in a traditionally male-dominated industry meant repeatedly proving her expertise in environments where women leaders were stilla rarity. One of her defining moments came while setting up the Asset Services business ata previous organisation, when she led a team of senior engineering professionals through acomplete shutdown for a major IT multinational in Bengaluru. The high-stakes operation, executed over the New Year weekend, was a first for the client. By working shoulder to shoulder with engineers, vendors and partners, she not only delivered the project successfully but also earned lasting respect from her team. Those experiences taught her that leadership is built on resilience, preparation and authenticity rather than authority.
"Leadership is not about fitting into an existing mould. It is about creating new pathways and creating opportunities for others to succeed," she says.
Having witnessed the industry's transformation into a more global, technology-driven and people-centric business, Charu believes the conversation around women in leadership has also matured. The focus today, she says, is no longerjust representation but influence, decision-making and equitable growth.
