Patel Engineering Limited (NSE: PATELENG & BSE: 531120), a leading infrastructure and construction services company, has set a new national benchmark by recording 812.466 metres of tunnelling in a single month. The milestone was achieved at Shaft‑02 (Sai Village) under the CIDCO Treated Water Tunnel (TWT) Project – Package II, part of a 6.27 km long tunnel designed to strengthen Navi Mumbai’s bulk water conveyance infrastructure.
The excavation was executed using a 3.2‑metre diameter TBM machine manufactured by Terratec, named “Tiboti Khandya” after Raigad district’s official bird, the Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher. The machine enabled precision tunnelling with enhanced safety and minimal surface disruption, making it ideal for complex urban infrastructure projects.
This achievement surpasses previous national records of 777 metres in the small TBM category and 790 metres in the large single shield TBM category, both also set in Navi Mumbai. Patel Engineering’s success reflects meticulous planning, round‑the‑clock execution, and optimized boring and mucking systems.
Commenting on the milestone, Ms. Kavita Shirvaikar, Managing Director of Patel Engineering Ltd, said, “Achieving the highest monthly tunnelling progress ever recorded in India is a moment of immense pride. This reflects the exceptional coordination, discipline, and technical expertise of our teams, supported by strong leadership and timely interventions.”
The CIDCO TWT project is a cornerstone of Navi Mumbai’s long‑term water security strategy, ensuring reliable treated water transmission for decades. Patel Engineering’s record reinforces its leadership in mechanized tunnelling and underscores India’s growing underground construction capability on the global stage.
