The Government of Maharashtra is committed to expanding affordable housing and ensuring that citizens have access to quality homes. As part of this vision, one lakh homes will be built across the state through MHADA in the next two years under a structured and planned approach.
A new state housing policy will soon be introduced, stated Shri Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister and Housing Minister, Government of Maharashtra. He highlighted that the Central Government has identified four states across the country for setting up growth hubs, one of which will be in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. These hubs will house a large number of industries, IT companies, and service sector enterprises, creating significant employment opportunities. Considering this, MHADA plans to develop eight lakh homes to meet the housing demand. In addition, rental housing and hostels for working women, students, and senior citizens will be developed under a structured housing approach.
Shri Shinde also emphasized that given Mumbai’s geographical constraints, redevelopment will focus on eco-friendly housing through cluster development. He expressed satisfaction that MHADA is fulfilling the dream of homeownership for many citizens. He noted that the Pune Board’s housing lottery received 71,642 applications for 3,662 homes, demonstrating strong public confidence in MHADA’s transparent process. To uphold this trust, he directed officials to ensure that the successful applicants receive possession of their homes without any delay, maintaining complete transparency and adherence to quality standards.
Maharashtra Government is continuously working on various schemes to provide affordable housing, and in the past 18 months, MHADA has successfully allotted 30,000 homes through 13 lotteries. Additionally, efforts are being made to resolve stalled housing projects and accelerate slum redevelopment to enhance housing availability. Cluster redevelopment projects are being prioritized in Mumbai, Pune, and Thane, with similar initiatives under consideration for Pune.
Shri Ajit Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister, Pune, Government of Maharashtra, emphasized that the strong response to this housing lottery highlights the need for more affordable housing in the state and reinforces public trust in MHADA’s transparent lottery system. He noted that MHADA’s beneficiaries are its true representatives, and their participation strengthens the credibility of its initiatives.
The homes developed by MHADA are allocated transparently through a fully digital system, ensuring fairness. The Integrated Housing Lottery Management System (IHLMS 2.0) is an automated, interference-free process where applicants must complete registration and eligibility verification before participating. Once selected, winners receive a formal intimation letter followed by a provisional allotment letter upon completing necessary formalities. Shri Pawar urged citizens not to fall prey to intermediaries, as MHADA does not authorize any agents or brokers for home allocation.
Shri Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil, Chairman, MHADA Pune Board, highlighted that the Pune Board has successfully provided affordable homes in the past and remains committed to future housing initiatives. He also announced that under the first-come, first-served scheme, homes in Tathawade, Mahalunge, Saswad, and Purandare are currently available, encouraging citizens to take advantage of this opportunity.
