Odisha has extended its Antyodaya Gruha Yojana by two years, from 2027 to 2029, with plans to construct an additional 2.91 lakh houses for eligible beneficiaries. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced the extension on Thursday, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to providing housing for families in need.
The total project cost will remain unchanged at Rs 7,550 crore. However, Rs 3,500 crore initially earmarked for house repairs will be diverted towards constructing new houses, according to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).
The extension will expand the scheme’s reach as the state government seeks to provide housing to more poor and destitute families who are ineligible for assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
Revised Incentives for Beneficiaries
Alongside extending the scheme, the state government has revised the incentives offered to beneficiaries who complete construction within the stipulated period.
Under the revised guidelines, beneficiaries will receive Rs 35,000 if they complete their houses within five months and Rs 20,000 if construction is completed within seven months. Previously, the incentives stood at Rs 20,000 for completion within four months and Rs 10,000 for completion within six months.
The revised structure increases the financial rewards while providing beneficiaries with longer completion timelines.
Survey to Identify New Beneficiaries
The Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department has been directed to conduct a survey and identify new beneficiaries for the scheme at the earliest, the CMO statement said.
The Antyodaya Gruha Yojana was initially designed to provide houses to five lakh families, primarily poor and destitute households that did not qualify for housing assistance under PMAY.
With the two-year extension and the addition of 2.91 lakh houses, the state government aims to widen access to housing support. Majhi said the government’s goal of providing housing for everyone in Odisha would be achieved soon.
