PMRDA Unveils Rs. 33,700-Crore Plan to Transform Pune’s Industrial Corridors

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is setting the stage for one of Maharashtra’s most ambitious development pushes yet. In a bid to turn Pune’s extended industrial corridor into a model of integrated urban and industrial growth, the authority has unveiled a Rs. 33,700-crore master plan spanning the next five years.

At the heart of this plan are the region’s major industrial hubs, Hinjewadi, Chakan, Ranjangaon, Talegaon, and Pirangut which together form the backbone of Pune’s manufacturing and technology ecosystem. From automotive giants and engineering firms to IT parks and logistics clusters, these zones have powered Pune’s rise as one of India’s top industrial destinations. PMRDA now wants to build on that success by strengthening infrastructure, expanding civic amenities, and ensuring that the region grows in a balanced, sustainable way.

PMRDA Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase, outlining the vision at a special workshop organized for office-bearers of various industrial associations, said that groundwork for projects worth Rs. 900 crore will begin soon. These initial projects are part of a much larger set of 208 development works planned under the master blueprint. The focus, he said, is clear: to make doing business in Pune smoother, faster, and more efficient.
“Entrepreneurs often face hurdles that are local and procedural, issues that can be resolved quickly if the right systems are in place,” Dr. Mhase said. “We are decentralizing decision-making to make sure industrial concerns are addressed promptly at the taluka level.”

To make this vision work on the ground, PMRDA is setting up a dedicated cell staffed with full-time Assistant Town Planners and Assistant Directors. This team will exclusively handle entrepreneurs’ issues, from land-use queries and layout approvals to compliance and infrastructure support. The authority is also planning to expand the powers of officials in taluka offices, enabling them to grant building permissions and issue fire safety no-objection certificates (NOCs) locally. The goal: to reduce red tape and speed up approvals that often stall industrial projects.

The workshop, attended by key representatives from the region’s industrial sector, turned into a constructive exchange of ideas. Among the participants were Motilal Sankla and Rajiv Ranka from the Chakan Industrial Association, Michael Peter from the Deccan Member of Commerce Industrial Association, and Appasaheb Shinde from the Western Maharashtra MIDC Chamber Federation. They discussed the everyday challenges faced by industries, from infrastructure bottlenecks and power supply issues to land clearances and transport connectivity.

PMRDA officials, including Additional Commissioner Deepak Singla and Director of Development Permission and Planning Avinash Patil, presented detailed plans for development works across the major zones. Each industrial pocket, whether Chakan’s manufacturing corridor or Hinjewadi’s IT hub, has a tailored roadmap for upgrading roads, utilities, and civic infrastructure. The authority emphasized that better connectivity, smoother logistics, and streamlined approvals are central to its agenda for industrial competitiveness.

To ensure this collaboration continues beyond the workshop, PMRDA will now hold quarterly review meetings with representatives of industrial associations. These regular interactions are aimed at maintaining open communication and fast-tracking problem resolution. “Dialogue is key,” Dr. Mhase said. “When government and industry sit together regularly, solutions come faster and projects move quicker.”

The initiative also reflects a growing recognition that industrial development and urban growth can no longer be treated as separate goals. Pune’s industrial belt, stretching from the IT towers of Hinjewadi to the factories of Ranjangaon has expanded rapidly in recent years, bringing jobs and investment but also straining civic infrastructure. PMRDA’s integrated approach seeks to bridge that gap, ensuring that housing, transport, and amenities keep pace with industrial expansion.

The authority’s plans include close coordination with local governing bodies, gram panchayats, municipal councils, and the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) to ensure that developmental works complement existing infrastructure and benefit both residents and businesses.

Dr. Mhase added that the state government’s recent policy initiatives aimed at boosting industrial investment will be implemented swiftly within PMRDA’s jurisdiction. “The government is committed to making Maharashtra an easier place to do business, and PMRDA will play its part by ensuring that every policy translates into visible change on the ground,” he said.

As the groundwork begins, the Rs. 33,700-crore plan could reshape how industrial growth unfolds across the Pune region, turning its once fragmented clusters into a cohesive, connected, and future-ready industrial ecosystem.
