When Sapna began her career, it was common for her to be the only woman in a meeting room or ona project site. Rather than focusing on the barriers, she focused on the work. Over the years, she has led large and complex projects for global organisations including AXA, Adobe, Hitachi Energy, Allianz, JPMC, Viacom18 and Microsoft, experiences that shaped her understanding of leadership as much as design.
"Every project teaches you something different, but the biggest lesson for me has been that people matter as much as design," she says.
Those years taught her patience, resilience and the value of listening before making decisions. While she acknowledges that women continue to face challenges in leadership, she believes the industry has made significant progress. More women are occupying leadership positions today, and credibility, she says, ultimately comes from consistent performance. Her approach to growth is equally measured. For her, success is not defined by rapid expansion or quick project turnarounds, but by creating spaces that remain relevant and effective long after completion. At ANJ Group and The Canvas, sustainability begins at the design stage itself. Sapna also believes diverse voices lead to stronger decisions. As workplaces evolve to prioritise flexibility, wellbeing and usability, she sees the future belonging to organisations that successfully balance technology, innovation and human-centred design.
