The Global Cement & Concrete Association (GCCA) India has announced the unanimous re-election of Parth Jindal, Managing Director of JSW Cement, as Chair, and Deepak Khetrapal, Managing Director of Orient Cement, as Co-Chair. Their terms will extend until 2026. This decision was made during a recent meeting of GCCA India member company CEOs.
Their re-election signifies a critical step towards sustainability and decarbonisation in India’s cement industry. GCCA India, in collaboration with the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), is developing the Net Zero CO2 Roadmap for the Indian cement industry and its value chain.
Parth Jindal commended the industry’s progress in decarbonising a hard-to-abate sector. He emphasised India’s significant role as the second largest cement producer globally and the importance of having a sectoral roadmap to align with the Indian government’s net zero 2070 targets. He highlighted key decarbonisation strategies such as expanding the use of alternative fuels and raw materials, utilising waste heat recovery for power generation, and increasing the use of renewable energy.
Deepak Khetrapal expressed gratitude for the continued trust placed in him and reiterated his commitment to working with industry colleagues to advance GCCA India’s ambitious agenda. His focus will be on reducing emissions, achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and enhancing overall sustainability.
Thomas Guillot, Chief Executive of the Global Cement and Concrete Association, congratulated Jindal and Khetrapal on their re-elections. He emphasised India’s crucial role in the global industry’s decarbonisation efforts, aligning with the 2050 Net Zero Concrete Roadmap, and the need for supportive government policies and the inclusion of the cement value chain.
GCCA India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with TERI to promote and accelerate sustainable development in India’s cement industry.
