In a major push for environmental sustainability, the Delhi government will develop 10 dense urban forests—dubbed ‘Namo Van’—across the city. The initiative was announced by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta at the ‘Aadhar Infra Confluence 2025’ hosted by Panchjanya, where she outlined her administration’s broader vision for urban infrastructure.
“These wooded zones will serve as natural lungs for the city,” Gupta said, adding that the government has already begun planting 70 lakh saplings this year. The ‘Namo Van’ sites are expected to be densely vegetated, designed to absorb pollutants and improve air quality in high-traffic zones.
Gupta also emphasized Delhi’s transformation into a multi-sectoral hub for education, tourism, IT, and healthcare. “Our goal is to create jobs while keeping pollution at a minimum,” she said, positioning green infrastructure as central to the capital’s development strategy.
The initiative aligns with Delhi’s broader climate resilience goals and is expected to complement existing afforestation and biodiversity programs. Locations for the ‘Namo Van’ sites are being finalized, with priority given to areas facing high ecological stress.
