Andhra Pradesh Govt to Take Up 239 Projects in Different Urban Local Bodies

In a big mover to provide protected drinking water and sewage facilities in urban areas and state government has given green signal to take up 239 projects in different urban local bodies (ULB) across the state. The projects are part of Phase I of the Atal Mission For Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation, Amrut 2.0.

The apex committee of Union Urban Ministry has already approved the projects proposed by the State Government. The State Government had granted administrative approval for Rs 3151 crore to complete the proposed projects in 106 urban local bodies.

While the Centre is giving Rs 1065 crore, State Government will share a burden or Rs 1189 crore. The ULBs have been asked to spare Rs 695 crore while Rs 200 crore will be routed through XV finance commission grants. 

Special Chief Secretary Municipal Administration and Urban Development Y Srilaxmi said that the State Government had directed the municipal corporations and municipalities to immediately start the works on the proposed projects.

The State Government had approved nearly 92 drinking water projects, 46 sewage management projects while 101 projects related to water body rejuvenation said Srilaxmi. She explained that Rs 1877. 36 crore would be spent on the drinking water projects while Rs 1085 crore would be dedicated for sewage plants. She said that they have also spared Rs 189 crore for rejuvenation of water bodies. 

She directed the nodal implementation agencies- APTIDCO and AP Green and Beautification Corporation Limited (APGBCL) to immediately ready Detailed Project Reports (DPR) and give technical sanctions for the projects by the competent authority. She had also asked the nodal officers to ensure the local bodies following the reforms as per the Amrut Guidelines.

She had asked the engineer -in-chief (public health) to submit plan to reuse the treated water generated from the STPs for a minimum quantity of 20 percent as per the Amrut Guidelines.
