Flipkart is stepping up its presence in the Northeast this festive season, with a major push across supply chain, seller networks, and workforce initiatives in Assam and neighbouring states.
The e-commerce giant has identified the region as one of its fastest-growing markets, reporting 35–40% year-on-year growth driven by rising digital adoption and increasing consumer demand. Guwahati is central to this expansion, with Flipkart establishing over 6 lakh sq. ft. of warehousing covering large, non-large, and grocery categories, aimed at faster deliveries and wider product availability during peak months. In Tripura, a new grocery fulfilment centre in Agartala is set to handle up to 5,000 orders daily.
Quick commerce is also a key focus. Flipkart Minutes, the company’s express grocery delivery service, is scaling operations in Guwahati, which currently has nine Micro Fulfilment Centres, with more on the way. Across the Northeast, Flipkart operates 391 small-format hubs, including 31 in Guwahati, strengthening last-mile reach in urban and semi-urban areas.
Festive operations are expected to generate significant employment, with over 2.2 lakh jobs created across warehousing, logistics, and last-mile delivery. Flipkart is emphasising inclusivity, offering opportunities for persons with disabilities and underrepresented groups through its Supply Chain Operations Academy and partnerships with social organisations.
The seller ecosystem in the region is also expanding. Assam alone hosts more than 1 lakh sellers on Flipkart, with strong demand in categories like ethnic wear, footwear, grooming, children’s apparel, and home furnishings. Initiatives such as Samarth Krishi are connecting farmers and producers to broader markets, enabling sales of pineapples from Garo Hills, strawberries from Khasi Hills, Assam lemons, and baby kiwi from Bomdila to cities like Ranchi, Patna, and Kolkata.
Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Flipkart Group, said: “The Northeast is one of India’s fastest-growing markets. By combining supply chain infrastructure with inclusive workforce practices and deep engagement with local sellers, artisans, and farmers, we are ensuring the benefits of digital commerce reach every corner of the region.”
Sustainability is another priority. Flipkart aims to transition to 100% electric vehicles for last-mile delivery by 2030, while its Flipkart Reset programme, focusing on circular economy initiatives such as mobile exchange and trade-in has onboarded over 2,000 distributors and retailers. The Northeast now contributes nearly 30% of Reset’s business, reflecting strong regional adoption.
With these expansions, Flipkart is positioning itself as a key driver of the Northeast’s retail growth this festive season, spanning infrastructure, seller networks, employment, and green initiatives.
